Many families are yet to be told that their treatment is being investigated

National media has reported that Sussex Police has received allegations of medical negligence at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton – and many families are yet to be told that their case is being investigated.

National news and press reports on November 27th, 2023, revealed that University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust is investigating potential negligence relating to 84 neurology cases and 21 gastroenterology cases.

The allegations state that patients were harmed by surgeons, and a thorough investigation is currently underway to determine the accuracy of the claims.

Additionally, the police are investigating 105 cases due to allegations of a cover-up. However, it has been reported that most of the families involved have not yet been informed that their case is being investigated.

Act fast if you receive written notice or see a media report about medical negligence that might affect you?

It is important to contact a specialist clinical negligence solicitor as soon as possible. There are strict time limits for making a compensation claim for injury or illness caused by negligent medical care and treatment.

A patient has only three years from the date of the negligent treatment or care, or from the date of when they first became aware that they had suffered injury or illness because of the negligence.

Even if you do not have any symptoms of ill health or injury now, there could still be long-term consequences that develop later. A surgical error or omission could need correcting before issues develop. Find out about your rights now and seek legal advice.
